Branmer's father, Kedrunn, is a high ranking and widely respected member of the Warrior Caste who has been a close advisor to at least two previous Shai Alyts. While more positively predisposed towards the Religious Caste than many of his fellow Warriors, Kedrunn is still critical of their dominance in Minbari society, and frustrated by Minbar's isolationist politics. Curious about the wider galaxy, and sympathetic to the Narn cause, Kedrunn has often argued that the Minbari should take a more active role in galaxy and make greater efforts to befriend the younger, less advanced powers such as the League.

Branmer's mother, Eiyamer, is a Shaal of the Religious Caste and a respected musician and composer. Her work has been performed before members of the Grey Council, and she is famous for her polyphonic compositional style that tries to capture the essence of the shared Minbari soul. Originally from a very conservative religious order, Eiyamer caused scandal in her choice of husband, and has happily courted controversy ever since.
